Abstract We study a Schrödinger equation modeling the dynamics of an electron in crystal asymptotic regime small wave-length comparable to characteristic scale crystal. Using Floquet Bloch decomposition, we obtain description limit time averaged energy densities. make rather general assumption assuming that initial data are uniformly bounded high order Sobolev spaces and crossings between modes at worst conical. show despite singularity they create, conical crossing do not trap prevent dispersion. also investigate interactions can occurred when there some degenerate bands.

Effective Mass Theorems for Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations
We consider time-dependent nonlinear Schrödinger equations subject to smooth, lattice-periodic potentials plus additional confining potentials, slowly varying on the lattice scale. After an appropriate scaling we study the homogenization limit for vanishing lattice spacing. Assuming well prepared initial data, the resulting effective dynamics is governed by a homogenized nonlinear Schrödinger e...
متن کاملWhispering Bloch modes
We investigate eigenvalue problems for the planar Helmholtz equation in open systems with a high order of rotational symmetry. The resulting solutions have similarities with the whispering gallery modes exploited in photonic micro-resonators and elsewhere, but unlike these do not necessarily require a surrounding material boundary, with confinement instead resulting from the geometry of a serie...
متن کاملDiscrete-symmetry vortices as angular Bloch modes.
The most general form for symmetric modes of nonlinear discrete-symmetry systems with nonlinearity depending on the modulus of the field is presented. Vortex solutions are demonstrated to behave as Bloch modes characterized by an angular Bloch momentum associated to a periodic variable, periodicity being fixed by the order of discrete point-symmetry of the system. The concept of angular Bloch m...
متن کاملApplication of Berry’s phase to the effective mass of Bloch electrons
The Berry’s phase, although well-known since 1984, has received little attention among textbook authors of solid state physics. We attempt to address this lack by showing how the presence of the Berry’s phase significantly changes a standard concept (effective mass) found in most solid state texts. Specifically, we show that the presence of a non-zero Berry curvature in Bloch systems makes the ...
متن کاملVariational Principle, Uniqueness and Reciprocity Theorems in Porous Piezothermoelastic with Mass Diffusion
The basic governing equations in anisotropic elastic material under the effect of porous piezothermoelastic are presented. Biot [1], Lord & Shulman [4] and Sherief et al. [5] theories are used to develop the basic equations for porous piezothermoelastic with mass diffusion material. The variational principle, uniqueness theorem and theorem of reciprocity in this model are established under the ...
